How do you measure a life well-lived?

There is a lot of noise, internally and externally, every day that distracts us from staying connected to and pursing quality of life. Some of these rabbit holes are:

Focusing on perceptions of how we should be living.
Convincing ourselves that we should settle.
Using busyness to measure our personal value.
Minimizing our individuality to fit in.
Trying to control how our lives appear to other people.

When I am coaching in the clinic, some patients arrive in my office because of a new diagnosis or an unexpected lab result that sheds new light on the condition of their health.

In such cases, before we get into any discussions about lifestyle adjustments or behavior changes, I prompt them to explore what about their life matters most to them. Sometimes the answers are immediate, and sometimes it takes them time to sift through noise to identify the pillars of their value system. Once they are clear about what a meaningful life looks like to them, then we can start aligning their actions and behaviors with that vision.

When you are connected with your values, you can let them guide your actions, and you'll be able to say you experienced a life well-lived.
